Have you used the original cable?
Have you run the correct *.bat file corresponding to the COM-socket the cable is connected with?
Have you started the correct *.bat file before rebooting the Homeserver?

no, we lost the original cable, and therefor we contacted Gira, who thold us that this can be donne as well whit a regular crossed COM cable. Do you think that the cable might be the problem?
Yes we have downloaded the firmware update from 17/05/2005, the belgian contact from gira thold us that this is the most recent.
Thanx for youre fast reply

PintThe most usual faults are that the user starts the incorrect *.bat file to upload the firmware and/or forgets to reset the Homeserver after starting the *.bat file.
In case the cable is not the problem, perform the following steps:

disconnect the Homeserver from EIB
connect the RS232 (not the EIB socket) of the Homeserver with a COM-Port of your PC
In case the Homeserver is connected to COM1 start firmupd1.bat,
in case of COM2 start firmupd2.bat from DOS-Commandline
Reboot or Power on the Homeserver.
you will get the message "waiting for receiver" while Homeserver is rebooting
Once the update has started, you will see it on PC´s screen. Do not interrupt the update - critical damage could occur!
the update has finished when you hear 3 beeps.
transmit your project and disconnect the Homeserver from PC.
after reconnecting the Homeserver to EIB the Homeserver is ready again!

Do you have any other devices (ISDN-Card, Modem etc.) which uses either COM 1 or COM 2?

I have connections for : mouse, keyboard, printer, screen,TV-out, network, 2 usb's ,COM port, ISDN port. How does the EIB port looks alike? isn 'tit the same as the com port? We 'r using the Com 1 port.

Do you have a cable tester so we can try to configure the same cable as the original gira cable?

Thank you verry muche

Perhaps we should check first now which Homeserver you have :D

If you have the "old" Homeserver http://www.dacom-homeautomation.de/img/hs_21.jpg a firmware-update via RS-232 is not possible! You have to burn the firmware on a CD-ROM!

If you have this http://www.dacom-homeautomation.de/img/hs_22.jpg device, I´m nearly sure that you do not have the correct (crossed) cable.

You will find a schematic pin allocation there.:)

Thank you, now we have the right cable but it still doesn't work, any other sugestions? we first conected the cable then run the firmupd1.bat file and then restart or start the HS, what do we do wrong, we always get the "carrier not detected to COM" fault and at the end beeps the HS2 3 times double.

thanks Michel

Hi Michel,

is at the COM-Port on the other times a Modem, PDA or other Seriel device connected ? E.g. Mobilphone-driver etc ?

It could be that these Software "spaces" the COM-port an then the update will not work. Be sure that such software or drivers are disabled before you try to update the Homeserver,

or,

try to boot a DOS-Mode or "Safe-Mode" in Windows.

Kind regards,

Michael
